Alan Johnson

August 16, 1955 — March 26, 2023

Alan Patrick North Johnson, born August 16th 1955 at Fort Smith in the Northwest Territories, passed away peacefully in his daughters’ arms on March 26th 2023 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. Alan is survived by his wife, Debbie Johnson, and their two daughters, Ashley (Dave Hardiman) of Smith Falls, and Alyssa (Corey Willis) of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

Alan went by many different names: son, brother, husband, uncle Al, 50/50 guy, soon-to-be papa, but his favourite name to go by was Dad. He lived every day for Ashley and Alyssa, teaching them valuable life lessons and providing them with every opportunity that he could. The three of them traveled across Ontario participating in YBC Bowling Competitions and went camping in as many Provincial Parks as they could.

During his youth, Alan was a cadet in the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa Cadet Corps and loved sharing stories as the cadet leader at Camp Ipperwash in 1970. He served his country with the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa reserve unit and participated in the Changing of the Guard on Parliament Hill in 1972. He then went on to join the Regular Force of the CAF in 1976, completing recruit training in Cornwallis, and trade training in Borden; with an honourable release in 1978. Alan started working for the Government of Canada soon after and proudly worked for 37 years while raising his family in Ottawa, Ontario.

During his retirement, Alan worked at the homestead in Smith Falls and observed and supported his son-in-law, Corey, in multiple military ceremonies at Garrison Petawawa. In 2021, he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer and became a true warrior to his family. He leaned on his faith and showed so much grace and strength through all his appointments and treatments. Alan lived every day to the fullest, spending as much time with his family as he could.

His family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in the summer to honour him.
