Ann Ellen Parrott

March 8, 1944 — July 21, 2022

Ann Parrott, died peacefully on July 21, 2022 at Baycrest Hospital in Toronto, after a short illness. She leaves behind her sister, Martha Parrott (Ken Kessler) of Toronto and brother, Larry Parrott, of Wilmington, Delaware. The daughter of Frank Willis Parrott and Mary Louise (Lamal) Parrott, Ann was born, raised, and educated in various parts of the United States. She earned a degree in interior design from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in 1967 and was a valued colleague at a number of architecture firms during her nearly 50 year career. In 1973 she moved to Montreal and in 1978 to Toronto where she has mostly lived ever since. In addition to her work, Ann loved to travel, whether sailing to Europe for an extended visit in 1970, or visiting Mexico, or taking road trips through Canada and the U.S. Her delight in traveling may have started with her very early love of “ravelly paths.” As an adult, if there was a choice between a main road and a winding back road, the back road would always win. Ann also had a life-long love of all kinds of animals, whether wild or domestic, and shared her home for many years with a succession of very lucky dogs. She was an enthusiastic gardener and for the past several years has lovingly nurtured tropical plants, ferrying them between home and a greenhouse according to the season.

Ann was the consummate oldest child, determined to assume responsibility for resolving any family problem. In 1994, she pulled up stakes for two years to move back to Wilmington to organize care for our mother, who was suffering from dementia, and for our disabled brother, Larry. She only returned to Toronto when she was sure that both were safe and well cared for, that she had “fixed it.”

After cremation in Toronto, Ann’s remains will make a final journey to Wilmington, to be interred next to our parents.

Our thanks to the staff at North York General Hospital and to those at the wonderful Palliative Unit at Baycrest.

Donations in memory of Ann could be made to the Toronto Wildlife Centre or to any animal support charity of your choice.
