David Jeffxxx

d. March 8, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John David Jeffxxx, aged 79, on March 8th, 2023.  He was a loving father of Tonya (Jason) and James.

David was raised in Port Perry Ontario, by his parents John and Rita, and had six loving siblings: Arthur (Anne), Peter (Sylvie), Catherine (Greig), Linda (Larry), Elizabeth (Juergen), Robert (Bonnie) & many nieces and nephews.

He grew up with an intense curiosity for all things technical, and got great enjoyment from exploring many different disciplines.  From building his first crystal radio set as a child, he expanded his knowledge into electronics, wood working, mechanics, programming, construction, drafting, digital design, machining, obtaining his pilot's license, gardening, scuba diving, skiing, skating, singing in the choir, playing trumpet, guitar, and piano.

David’s experience as a boy scout earned him almost every badge and fostered his love of nature, hiking, camping and cottaging.  He would lovingly talk about his youthful memories at the cottage on Lake Simcoe, stories of friends and family, dance halls, clubs, crafts and boating.

This led him to later design and build his own cottage in Minden. The care he put into the maintenance of the property was evidence of his passion and skills shining through this labour of love.

David attended the University of Toronto and University of Waterloo studying in the field of electrical engineering, and later completed a masters in nuclear engineering.  While at university he met June, with whom he would share the next 25 years raising their family.  He spent the majority of his career at Ontario Hydro where he would constantly seek new challenges, such as working on nuclear fusion prototyping in Germany, and developing a software monitoring system for all the power plants in Ontario during Y2K that is still in use to this day.

David enjoyed sharing his knowledge, especially with children.  He wouldn't hesitate to explain ideas in detail and demonstrate through examples or hands-on projects how something worked.  His fascination and comprehension piqued the interest of those he taught and ignited their spark to learn. From wood crafts to electronics you could ask him a question about anything and he would always have the answer.  He could fix anything, and even when he didn't know how to fix it, he knew how to fix it.

David was the type of man to always want to help others, he would often put others peoples needs ahead of his own, and would rarely ask for anything. This selflessness was unfailing in the way that he supported those who asked it of him. If you needed him, he was there.  Even after living for so many years in Toronto he still kept his small town friendliness and would go up and start a conversation with anyone as if he had known them for years.  He would give cheerful phone greetings and leave singing messages that would brighten your day.  He didn’t always know how to express his emotions, but he had a very big heart, and deep down just wanted everyone to be happy.

Dad you will always be in our hearts, thank you for everything.

Love Tonya & James
