Eamonn (Francis) Browner 1934 - 2023

Eamonn passed away peacefully at Eatonville Care Center on May 13, 2023 at the age of 88 years.

Beloved husband of Alice (nee Laflamme) for 55 years. Predeceased by brothers Paddy, Connie and Michael Browner, and sister Elizabeth Heaney and survived by his sisters Maura Cross and Philomena Murray as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Eamonn was born in Limerick, Ireland and immigrated to Canada as a young man residing in Mississauga for the rest of his life.

Eamonn and Alice’s love for travel took them many places within Canada and the US as well as Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, South America, Scotland and of course home to Ireland.

They were active members of the St. Dominic’s Parish where he was also a member of the choir for over 20 years. Everyone he knew has been entertained with his singing anything from church hymns to Irish folk songs.

Eamonn and Alice loved to entertain. They held many social events for church members, neighbours, friends and family, rugby teams local and touring, and of course his pride and joy, the Toronto Irish Rugby Club.

Eamonn loved sports, from hockey, bowling, golf and of course playing and watching Rugby Football. Prior to immigrating to Canada, Eamonn played for Shannon Rugby Club in Ireland. Upon arrival in Canada, he joined the Irish Canadian Rugby Club and was an active player until 1971. He was a great hooker, a first team member all his playing years and captain for several years. He was involved in many winning championships and represented Ontario on several occasions. He also served as an administrator within the club as well as for the Ontario Rugby Union. He was made an Honorary Life member of the club in 2000 and in 2001 inducted into the Ontario Rugby Union Hall of Fame.

Thank you to the staff at Eatonville Care Home for the many years of caring for Eamonn.
