BANKS, Jasper Alexander of Orangeville, formerly of Toronto (1941 – 2021)

Jasper Alexander Banks, passed away suddenly on July 28, 2021, at the Avalon Care Centre, Orangeville at the age of 80.

Jasper, affectionately known as Jazz, was a natural entertainer and had a lifelong love and talent for music. He was self taught in playing many instruments of which included piano, guitar, drums, and harmonica as well as singing. Jazz loved a good party and would always be the center of attention as he would adlib songs about the people who were in attendance, one song was affectionately known and requested as the “Oh Yeah” song.

In Jasper’s prime he played with many bands and various artists, one he often spoke of playing with was Ronnie Hawkins. Jazz also visited the Gasworks in downtown Toronto and went on stage and played with a band known as Goddo. Jazz was definitely not a shy man and would start a conversation with anyone who was within listening distance, he made many friends this way. While Jazz was a resident at the Avalon, he frequently entertained the staff and residents with his music and singing skills. He was certainly loved and will truly be missed.

Jasper Alexander Banks, son of Jasper Alexander Banks Sr. and Dorothy Grace Banks, survived by his sons Damon Vignale and Jason Vignale. Jasper is predeceased by his half brothers Raymond Collins and sister-in-law Irene Collins, Gary Collins and sister-in-law Bonnie Collins, Lorne Collins and sister-in-law Bernadette Collins, brother-in-law Lawrence Kehoe and survived by his sister Dorothy Kehoe. Jasper is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Jasper on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 2:00 pm., St. James Catholic Church, Colgan, 2118 Adjala/Tecumseth Townline, with Fr. Eric presiding.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) in Jasper’s honour.
