Paddison (Mitchell), Laurie Isabel (1958 - 2018)
It is with great sadness that we announce Laurie's passing on Tuesday July 17, 2018, at the age of 60. Surrounded by her family at the Montfort Hospital, Laurie peacefully succumbed to her year long and courageous battle with cancer. Loving wife and travel partner of Jeffrey, proud and protective mother to her two children Fraser (Kristina) and Kailey (Evan) Paddison, Nan to her first grandson (Mason) and walking buddy to her dog and sidekick Bella. Beloved daughter-in-law of Audrey and the late Harold Paddison. Laurie was a loving sister to her older sister Dawn (Kevin), twin sister Megan (Michael), and younger brother Cameron (Lynn) and supportive aunt to her many nieces and nephews; Lindsay (Brendan), Mitch (Jenna), Blake, Mackenzie (Kim), Tori (Basel), Gus, Rose, Katie, Nicholas, and Christopher.
Daughter of the late Thomas and Shirley Mitchell, Laurie was born in Montreal and often told stories of her family vacations in Vermont. Studying at John Abbott College, Laurie became a nurse and spent many years in the Neuro Observation Unit at the Ottawa General Hospital before deciding to stay home to raise her children. Active with school and after school activities for many years, when she was not volunteering you could find Laurie walking in the nearby trails with the family dog. An avid traveler, Laurie got to see many parts of the world that she spoke of fondly, and always enjoyed spending weekends at family cottages.
Laurie spent many hours on the phone, especially during her battle with cancer, and will be greatly missed by her many daily callers for her quick wit, dry sense of humor, support and laughter. The family would like to thank the Ottawa paramedics, the ER staff at the Montfort hospital, and especially the amazing group of doctors and nurses at the Ottawa Cancer Centre with special thanks to Dr. Hilton whom Laurie always enjoyed seeing and who kept her spirits up throughout her treatments.
At Laurie's request, there will be a private memorial for the family at a later date. A celebration of Laurie's life will be planned in the fall, Laurie's favourite season, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Ottawa Humane Society or the Ottawa Cancer Centre in Laurie's name would be appreciated.
