Lucia "Lucy" Kemp

December 10, 1957 — April 19, 2021

Mississauga

On April 19th 2021, Lucy Kemp passed away with her family by her side; after a courageous and truly inspiring 21 year battle with ovarian cancer.  She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend Bruce of 43 years, her two sons Kevin and Scott, favorite daughter in-law Heather and #1 Oma to her beautiful grandson Oliver; all of whom she loved and cherished very much.  Lucy is predeceased by her parents Dick and Rhea Jansen, and is survived by her brother Martin and sisters Thea and Angie.  Born in Toronto, Lucy grew up and went to school in Brampton.  She eventually got married and planted roots to start a family in Mississauga. Lucy was a true matriarch and role model for her family, which meant so much to her. While teaching others and demonstrating to everyone she met how to be humble and kind, her smile and bubbly personality was contagious and would always light up a room.  Lucy had an incredible ability to make friends with complete strangers.  It is believed that she was an angel put here on earth to heal others with her courteous compassion and warm heart. Lucy’s 21 year battle with cancer was a long and hard journey, with many obstacles.  Even after being dealt tough challenges in her life, Lucy never complained and continued to smile with optimism and positive energy.  Lucy did not let her diagnosis define who she was and what she was capable of doing for others.  Her courage and perseverance, allowed all of us to share more time with her as she positively impacted every life she touched.  Lucy created many life long memories with her loved ones, that will be treasured forever.  Her passion for cooking and family gatherings, further promoted the value of time shared with one another.

There will always be a significant void in our lives, as she will always be in our hearts and our memories.

We will take comfort in knowing that Lucy is no longer experiencing pain, and is now reunited with past loved ones. Lucy will always be loved, missed and never forgotten.  Its more of a see you later, rather than a goodbye. Lucy will always be a part of us, as we continue to make her proud by sharing and spreading the same kind of love that she gave the world.

A special thank you to the medical and palliative teams at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre who assisted in her care. If desired in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
