Lynda Diane Karn

April 2, 1953 — May 15, 2023

Toronto

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lynda Diane Karn in Toronto on May 15, 2023. Lynda is survived by her mother, Betty Anne Karn and her siblings Debra Antoncic, Beverly Karn, Chris Karn (Dianne Karn), Kate Karn (Greg Shanks), and Kevin Karn.

Lynda was born in Woodstock Ontario and attended College Avenue Secondary School and Conestoga College. She started her career as a journalist for the Norwich Gazette.  Later she returned to post-secondary education at the University of Western Ontario then went on to get her Bachelor of Education from Queen’s and a Masters of Education from OISE. She spent two years teaching in Nigeria with CUSO and later became a proponent of English as a Second Language instruction. Lynda worked at Ontario Welcome House and other organizations before joining the York Board and ultimately the Toronto District School Board teaching English.

Lynda’s retirement opened up a new chapter and opportunities and she loved spending time at the Neilson Park Creative Center in Etobicoke.  Lynda spent her latter years immersed in her crafts, quilting, knitting and crochet. She had a large circle of friends. Lynda’s playful cat Maggie was her constant companion and a source of great delight.

A reception for family and friends will be held at the home of Kate Karn and Greg Shanks Sunday July 9, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at 224 Ashworth Ave, Toronto, ON.  An internment ceremony will be held at Sweaburg Cemetery on Sunday July 30, 2023 at 11:30 a.m..
