RODNEY (ROD) JAMES DONOGHUE

May 20, 1946 - November 12, 2021

Rodney (Rod) James Donoghue, aged 75, passed away Nov. 12th with his daughter, Katye, by his side. He was born in Ottawa to Gilbert (Pat) Donoghue and Mavis Leger. Rod lost his beloved son, Gilbert (Scott) Donoghue, aged 28 on Dec. 29th, 2017. He leaves behind his loving daughter Katye Ialeen Donoghue (Hamoode Ajine), a five year old granddaughter, Aveya Ialeen Ajine, the mother of his children, Barbara Ialeen Donoghue, and cousins.

Rod was multi-talented and in his teen years became an expert water-skier on Mississippi Lake, competed provincially in gymnastics, was the cartoonist for his High School paper, and an altar boy. During those years, he spent many happy hours with a cousin, Michael Donoghue, who was like a brother to him.

He worked for the Federal Government (Veterans Affairs, Service Canada, etc.) for twenty years and was selected to complete a special program of management training, (O.I.S.E., Toronto). He worked his way up from Clerk to Acting Director. Later, he consulted in the Human Resources field for many years.

Rod was quick, and witty, with a big sense of humour. He loved cars, motorcycles, RVs, boats and tinkering with them; often with his son at his side. He shared his love of the outdoors by taking his children camping, skiing, boating, on road trips, etc. He was a member of a self-help group for years and was very active in helping others and taking on many volunteer positions.

His daughter wishes to thank the staff at Billingswood Manor, Granite Ridge and The Perley Health for taking such good care of him in the last eight years.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Spring or early Summer of 2022. It will be announced on Katye’s and Barbara’s Facebook Pages and in The Citizen (obits). In lieu of flowers, in Rod’s memory, please consider a donation to The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County.
