Thomas Charles Newton

June 14, 1939 — May 9, 2023

Mississauga

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our father Thomas (Tom) Newton on May 9, 2023, at the age of 83 in Mississauga, Ontario.

Son of the late Clarence Newton and Winnifred (nee Dowle) Newton, Tom is survived by his daughters Marlia Grant (David) and Lianne Newton, his longtime devoted girlfriend Tatiana Novikova, his brother Clarence Newton (Sharon), his sisters Shirley Walsh (late Pat), Irene Wilson (Brian), and Susan Dempsey (Jim), his grandchildren Jason, Jordan (Jordan L), Evan, and Jessica, and his great grandson Easton.  He will be missed by family and friends.

Tom was born in Toronto and lived on Yonge Street in Hoggs Hollow.  He had an education in diesel mechanics and business administration which led him to become the owner/manager of full-service gas and repair stations throughout his career, spending many years working with Imperial Oil/Esso.  Before retirement, Tom joined the Church of Nazarene and became part of their compassion ministry visiting the sick in hospital.   He also provided free auto maintenance for the Church’s food and clothing bank van, in the west end of Toronto, called the Sharing Place.

In his later years, his health presented him with many mobility difficulties, but he remained an inspiration as he never gave up hope that he could overcome a challenge.  He would always say “I have to try” and always did. He will remain known for his strength, business sense, intelligence, razor sharp wit and sense of humour, blue shirts, MacGyver “fix-it” skills, and his "George Clooney" looks.

In honour of his wishes, cremation and scattering of his ashes will take place (no funeral).  A memorial/celebration of life will be held for family and friends at a later date in Oshawa.

A special thank you to the staff at Villa Forum Long Term Care in Mississauga for their care during his short stay there.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Canada .
